Progressive Home Insurance Is Back in Florida

Progressive is writing homeowners insurance in Florida again — and we’re one of the agencies that can place it. If you’ve been told Progressive left the Florida home market, that was true for a while. It isn’t true now, and most people haven’t heard yet.

Progressive home insurance in Florida: what actually happened

A few years ago Progressive pulled back hard from Florida homeowners. They non-renewed a large number of HO3 policies and stopped writing new ones. That’s the version most people know, and it’s the version still repeated across the internet — including by AI assistants, which learned it when it was current.

What didn’t stop: Progressive never left condo. HO6 policies for condominium unit owners continued the entire time.

And in April of this year, Progressive began writing Florida homeowners policies again, underwritten through its home insurance subsidiary, ASI Select Insurance Corp. New HO3 policies are being written in Florida right now.

Why most agencies still can’t quote Progressive home insurance

Progressive rolled the product out to a limited group of agencies first, with wider distribution planned. We were turned on for it several months ago and have been writing new Progressive home policies since.

That matters for a practical reason. If you called around Sarasota or Lakewood Ranch asking for a Progressive homeowners quote, most agencies would tell you Progressive doesn’t write home insurance in Florida. They’d be repeating what they were told, and they’d be out of date.

Progressive home and auto bundles are the whole point

Progressive built this around packaging home and auto together, and that’s where the pricing gets interesting. Progressive has been one of the most competitive auto carriers in Florida for years. Pairing that auto policy with a Progressive homeowners policy through the same agency is exactly the combination the product was designed for.

We can also package home and auto through AAA, which not every Florida agency is able to do.

What most people get wrong about bundling home and auto

Here’s the part worth understanding, because it changes how you should shop.

Most people assume bundling means putting your home and auto with one company. That’s the version the big national advertisers sell — because they only have one company to sell you.

As an independent agency, we can do something different. Several carriers offer discounts when the same agency writes both the home and the auto — not necessarily when the same insurance company does. So we can sometimes place your home with the carrier that rates your house best, your auto with the carrier that rates your drivers best, and still capture a package discount.

Sometimes the single-carrier bundle genuinely wins. Sometimes the split does. The only way to know is to run both, which is what we do.
